How Can Hydrotherapy Help You? Scrubs and Wraps for Beginners

Written by Jo Hodges, LMT PA#MSG015344

There’s nothing better than a hot shower after a long day. Not only do you get to rinse the weight of a day’s stress off of your shoulders, but the warm water relaxes muscles and eases aches and pains! A common and accessible kind of heat therapy, hot baths and showers have been known for their health benefits for centuries, influencing beauty trends, lifestyles, and even the popularity of tourist towns. With this in mind, obviously a cold shower isn’t the first thing that comes to mind – but maybe it should be! Let’s talk about our new Vichy Shower, known as “The Blast”, and how contrast hydrotherapy can help you.

If you’re anything like our staff were originally, I know you’re wondering what we’re even talking about when we say ‘Vichy (VEE-SHE) Shower’. There’s not an automatic correlation in ‘Vichy Shower’ and the new wraps and scrubs we offer, but let us connect the dots! Thousands of years ago, the small town of Vichy was settled by Romans in modern-day France, and became known for mineral-rich thermal springs. In ancient times, the water was recognized for medicinal properties and ‘healing capabilities’, and fame grew over the next couple millennia, peaking in Napoleon's 19th century empire when it was turned into his resort destination. Riding the wave of popularity, Vichy solidified its place in the foundation of modern luxurious spas worldwide.

Shortly after the rise in popularity, spa practitioners introduced a revolutionary hydrotherapy experience—the Vichy Shower. Featuring multiple showerheads that cascaded warm and cool water over the body, this treatment offered unparalleled relaxation and therapeutic benefits without having to travel to the renowned springs. The innovation of warm-to-cold contrast hydrotherapy as the base of the Vichy Shower treatment revolutionized the industry! What does this mean for you and your Vichy Experience at Monacella Massage?

The Blast incorporates a powerful spray with traditional contrast therapy, with warm water for increased blood flow and pain relief, and cold water for decreased inflammation and boosted immune response. Not only do you get the refreshing reset from this relaxing service, but you reap the same benefits that were discovered millennia ago! First, the water is adjusted to your comfort, and the cold contrast can be done from there, turning the water down in three, five, or ten seconds intervals to customize your experience. Especially during the summer, the slow decrease of temperatures can be a cooling break to beat the heat wave this year!

Not a fan of the cold? No problem! The cold contrast is completely optional, and the temperature can be changed at any time in session. The default hydrotherapy is a soothing, warm spray that leaves you smooth and silky. Your comfort is key in any treatment!

Our ‘Blast’ Vichy Shower is used in two treatments: our Exfoliating Salt-Sugar Scrub and our Detoxifying Mud Wrap! Both include a blend of Jojoba, Avocado, Safflower, and Peach Oil for lasting results! Don’t know which one you’d like? Read below >>

Milk and Honey Salt-Sugar Scrub: A simple blend of replenishing ingredients like honey and clover takes this salt-sugar scrub to the next level, removing dead skin cells, unclogging pores, and improving skin texture.

This session lasts 30 minutes, and is available in packages!

European Rose Mud Wrap: A rejuvenating mud mask made with French Rose mineral clay to nourish, hydrate, and soften skin while detoxifying and buffing skin for a polished look.

This session lasts 40-45 minutes, and is available in packages!

Have a happy and healthy summer, and keep sunburns in mind when booking! Mud Wraps are great for the inflammation and irritation that burns brings, but scrubs will aggravate them more.
