Are you hesitant about getting a deep tissue massage because you have heard some concerning things? There are a lot of myths out there about massage, especially about deep tissue massages. We are here to debunk some myths about deep tissue!

MYTH: Deep tissue massages are painful!

FACT: Deep tissue massages do not have to be painful throughout the process. You determine how much pressure you are comfortable with by talking with your massage therapist. You do not have to handle more pressure than you want to and it does not always have to be painful to get the desired results from a deep tissue massage.

MYTH: You will be bruised and in pain for days after!

FACT: You should NOT be bruised from a deep tissue massage. A skilled professional is familiar with the body's anatomy and is aware of what they can do before the point of bruising. Everybody has different pain tolerance, so open and honest communication between the massage therapist and client is vital for the best result. As for pain, you may experience soreness (much like after a workout) for a day or so, but it will not be sharp or aching pain by any means.

MYTH: Women can’t give deep tissue massages!

FACT: Any licensed professional is fully capable of giving a high-quality deep tissue massage due to the knowledge of the body and technique. We have quite a few female massage therapists on staff that have extra training in deep tissue massage.

MYTH: Deep tissue is not relaxing!

FACT: Deep Tissue massages are catered to each client’s needs, meaning relaxation is key! While it may be a bit more intense than a “relaxation massage,” you will still feel comfortable and enjoy the process.

Now that you know the facts, you may be ready to try out a deep tissue massage! Keep in mind, massages are designed for you! You should be enjoying it every step of the way and communication is key. If you are in the Erie area and would like to try out a deep tissue massage with one of our licensed massage therapists, book a massage!
