Spring allergies and manual lymphatic drainage

We’re all anxiously and excitedly awaiting the sort of sight shown in that photo. Winters are long and can be difficult for a lot of reasons and spring… every year spring can feel like a miracle.

But with spring, other sorts of difficulties can come, including allergies — from mild to severe. When they’re bad, they’re really bad and can mean lost days to headaches, body fatigue, sinus infections, and more.

Did you know that manual lymphatic drainage was actually created for just this?

Yep. According to our resident expert, Pamela, who is specially trained in manual lymphatic drainage, “it was originally created to address allergies and sinus issues by using gentle strokes on the face and neck, working toward the major lymph nodes. Over time, more uses were discovered. Manual lymphatic drainage is now used to treat lymphedema, to remove "toxins", and to help remedy post-surgical swelling.”

She goes on to say, “I also use MLD very often to assist in recovery after plastic surgery. It is particularly useful after liposuction because that process is hard on the lymphatic vessels. I also have had clients for excessive neurotransmitters, to aid recovery from Lyme disease, to remediate chronic edema in cancer survivors, and for general wellness when people just feel sluggish.”

Manual lymphatic drainage can also be used for acute injuries, such as whiplash and strains, migraines, any kind of inflammation, and to support the immune system.

Please note: MLD should be avoided in cases of cardiac edema, untreated chronic heart failure, and acute infections.

If you’ve never tried it, maybe your spring allergies are the perfect excuse to try something new.

We used to require a phone consultation but you can now schedule with Pamela without doing that. But if you have any questions at all, do not hesitate to call us and have a chat. (814/838-3622)
